Answer questions your attendees may have about the event, like accessibility and amenities.

Is this really free?

Many of the programs discussed during this event are fully covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal, or community assistance programs if you qualify.

There is no cost to attend this event, and no obligation to enroll in anything.

Who qualifies for free home health services?

You may qualify if:

  • You have Medicare Part A or Part B
  • You recently had a hospital stay or health decline
  • Your doctor agrees that you need skilled nursing or therapy
  • You are homebound or have difficulty leaving home

If eligible, skilled nursing visits are typically 100% covered by Medicare.

What is home health?

Home health is medical care provided in your home. Services may include:

  • Skilled nursing
  • Physical therapy
  • Medication management
  • Wound care
  • Post-hospital recovery support
  • Medical social services

Home health is not 24-hour caregiving, but rather intermittent medical visits ordered by a physician.

What is the difference between home health and caregiving?

Home Health

Medical services are provided by licensed professionals and are often covered by Medicare when eligible.

Caregiving / IHSS

Non-medical assistance with daily activities such as:

  • Bathing
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Personal care

Some seniors qualify for both services at the same time.

What are the “$30,000+ in benefits”?

When combined, programs such as:

  • IHSS hours
  • Food assistance
  • Utility discounts
  • Incontinence supplies
  • Transportation services

can total over $30,000 per year in financial value, depending on eligibility.

Not everyone qualifies for all programs, but many seniors qualify for several of them.

Do I need Medi-Cal to qualify?

Some programs require Medi-Cal, while others do not.

Home health services typically require Medicare, not Medi-Cal.

During the event, we can help review your eligibility for both Medicare and Medi-Cal programs.

Is there a catch?

No. These are government or community-funded programs designed to support seniors.

Our goal is to help ensure Kern County seniors are aware of the benefits they may already qualify for.

How do I sign up?

You can:

  • Sign up for a follow-up appointment
  • Request a home health evaluation
  • Schedule assistance with Medi-Cal or IHSS applications
  • Take home a resource list with helpful programs
Does this mean I have to move into assisted living?

No. Many seniors are able to remain safely at home with the right support services and resources in place.

What should I bring if I want help applying?

If available, please bring:

  • Your Medicare card
  • A valid ID
  • A list of medications
  • Your doctor’s name

This helps us better assist you with eligibility and applications.
